Stamford -- Gov. Rick Perry made an appearance at Thursday's Texas Cowboy Reunion rodeo, spending enough time to shake hands, wave and watch about an hour of the events.

He also spent enough time to have fun poked at him by rodeo clown Raymond Griffin.

Griffin said he had heard reports that Perry had deported 186,231 immigrants.

"I heard that he was going to try to deport them again this year,"
the clown said, prompting laughter from the crowd.

The TCR, billed as the World's Largest Amateur Rodeo, continues through Saturday. A dance culminated events late Thursday.

Perry grew up in Paint Creek in Haskell County, not too far from the cowboy reunion grounds in Stamford.

He became governor after George W. Bush won the presidency in 2000. Perry, a Republican, plans to run for governor again in 2010.

If he is re-elected, he would serve his third term -- unprecedented in Texas politics. Most governors have served only two terms since the governor's term of office was increased to four years.
