A 38-year-old Waco man was in the McLennan County Jail on Wednesday after police say he pepper-sprayed his roommate before stabbing him in the stomach Tuesday night.
Jaime Santamaria and his roommate, Freddie Perez, 45, were arguing about money in an alley between North 11th and 12th streets near Colcord Avenue about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, said Waco police Sgt. Melvin Roseborough.
Santamaria pepper-sprayed Perez and stabbed him with a box cutter, Roseborough said.
Perez was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening, police at the scene said. He was no longer listed at Hillcrest on Wednesday, a hospital spokesman said.
Santamaria was being held at the McLennan County Jail on a $10,000 bond on the assault charge and without bail on an immigration detainer, a jail spokeswoman said.
