(July 15, 2008)--An autopsy shows a nurse was legally intoxicated at the time she died when a vehicle struck her pickup as she drove a teenage shooting victim to the hospital.
The Dallas Morning News reports June Nalls had methamphetamine and traces of marijuana in her system.
Her blood-alcohol level was 0.08.
The events leading up to the fatal crash in March started when Nalls’ son Devin and his friend Brandon Robinson, 15, hopped a fence surrounding a neighbor's property in Kaufman to check out a nearby party, investigators said.
The neighbor, W.C. Frosch, fired one shot that struck Robinson.
June Nalls made a quick decision not to call 911, and was driving the teenager to the hospital when a vehicle driven by Agustin Renteria of Kaufman collided with her pickup after Renteria drifted into the wrong lane.
Investigators said Renteria had been drinking.
He remains jailed on an immigration detainer, charged with leaving the scene of an accident, aggravated assault with a motor vehicle and criminally negligent homicide.
A grand jury later indicted Frosch on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The Texas Castle Doctrine gives property owners the right to use deadly force in defending themselves.
