THE WOODLANDS – The man who allegedly caused the death of a Conroe man early Thursday morning is in jail on an intoxication manslaughter charge and is being kept there by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold.

Houston resident Miguel Laynes Rojas, 33, was charged with the second-degree felony after he pulled out in front of 26-year-old Adam Grant Landrum along the Interstate 45 feeder road about one mile south of Oak Ridge North, according Texas Department of Public Safety officials.

“He did provide a breath specimen that was close to two times the legal limit,” said Trooper Israel Valdez.

DPS is still waiting for blood work on Rojas, Valdez said.

A second-degree felony is punishable by two to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Rojas’ bond for the intoxication manslaughter charge is $30,000.

Landrum, 26, was northbound on the I-45 feeder approaching Raypine Drive with his 1994 Honda motorcycle at about 1 a.m. Thursday when a 2001 Chevy Silverado driven by Rojas “failed to yield to the right of way and struck the motorcycle,” according to the Conroe DPS Communications Office. The Chevrolet was facing west at a stop sign on Raypine Drive.

“(Landrum) did not see him pull out and the motorcycle attempted to avoid the truck,” Valdez said.

Landrum, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 1:43 a.m., according to the Conroe DPS Communications Office.

Landrum was still dealing with the April 16 death of his 17-year-old sister, Jaclyn Landrum. The Oak Ridge High School junior was killed when her vehicle crashed into the rear axles of an 18-wheeler that was turning into a driveway on the northbound I-45 feeder road, south of FM 1488.

Adam, a 2001 Oak Ridge High School graduate, was a member of Suburban Wood Baptist Church in Humble and was a Galilean with Baptist Missionary Association of America, according to his obituary. While at ORHS, Adam participated in football, basketball and track. He then attended Lone Star College-North Harris and LSC-Montgomery.

Funeral services for Adam begin at 2 p.m. Monday at Gateway Baptist Church, located at 2930 Rayford Road in Spring. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Metcalf Funeral Directors, located at 1801 East White Oak Terrace in Conroe.
