FORT WORTH, TX -- A sentencing hearing is scheduled in September for a 31-year-old Houston man in a drug conviction case.

Authorities say Julius Junior Ajah was convicted by a federal jury of trying to board a London-bound plane from Dallas with plans to distribute more than a half a million dollars in cocaine.

A news release from U.S. Attorney Richard Roper of the Northern District of Texas says Ajah checked three cocaine-filled suitcases at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport in December.

When U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents found the drugs, Ajah told them two drug dealers would pay off his $20,000 debt if he took the bags to London.

An ICE agent testified that the cocaine Ajah was carrying could be sold in London for more than half a million dollars.

A federal jury convicted him on one count of possession with intent to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine.

At his sentencing on Sept. 29, Ajah faces a maximum of life in prison and a $4 million fine.
