When asked by police to produce identification, it’s best to make sure it’s real. A driver involved in a Wednesday car crash at the intersection of South Fry and the Katy Freeway was arrested for forgery of a government document, a felony, when he gave Harris County officers a fake alien registration card.

Officers doubted the card’s authenticity and confirmed it was a fake through the Department of Justice, according to a statement released by the Sheriff’s Office.

Gerber Bonilla, 18, told them he bought it at a flea market, according to the statement. Bonilla is being held without bond and may or may not be deported.

“There’s an immigration detainer on him that will prevent him from being released until that decision is made,” said Diann Johnson, media liaison for District IV of the Sheriff’s Office.
