Four people have been detained as possible illegal aliens following a traffic stop in Gonzales County.

According to Raleigh Measom, constable in the Waelder area, last Saturday evening a call was received by dispatchers of a possible drunken driver on Highway 97 heading toward Waelder.

Measom said he was not on duty at the time but was in the area and began looking for the car. Just outside of Waelder, Measom said he spotted the vehicle and made a traffic stop.

He said during the process of the investigation, it was determined a least some of the people might be illegal aliens. Measom said he transported all four to the Gonzales County jail, where the investigation continued.

At that time, jail personnel determined that all four occupants of the car were undocumented aliens.

All four were booked into the jail and officials contacted Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to take over from that point.

Measom said once it is determined someone is illegal, ICE must be called in and they begin the next steps in the process.
