We the People - Let's be sensible on immigration

Re: June 27 commentary "Let's be sensible on immigration."

There is one main requirement for immigrating to the United States: Do it legally.

The procedure is published and well known and millions have used it, but the couple Ashley Sanchez wrote about neglected to follow the procedures, and now the woman faces deportation. The kind of people we want in the United States are those that abide by U.S. laws — all laws.

Sanchez tries to divert our attention by comparing a 16-year-old boy, who lied about his age to fight for his country, to the illegal immigrants who disrespected U.S. immigration laws by living here without proper documentation.

If illegal immigrants are willing to make sacrifices to live here, why not follow the legal immigration procedures initially?
