Family of Officer Gryder to Receive Award in his Honor

At 11 a.m. on THURSDAY (September 11), Houston Police Officer Gary Gryder’s family will be presented the Governor’s Star of Texas Award given to police officers or firefighters seriously injured or killed in the line of duty. Senior Police Officer Gary A. Gryder was directing traffic when he was struck and killed on the Katy Freeway west service road at State Highway 6 on June 29, 2008.

Senior Police Officer Gryder will posthumously receive the award at a ceremony held on the Texas Senate floor at the State Capital building in Austin. Officer Gryder’s wife (retired police officer), Debbie Gryder, and their son, Austin Gryder, will be in attendance to receive this award.
